I was excited to get on my way because I have only heard amazing things about the safari trips! At 4:44 on the dot David Kennedy made his way to our door step! We drove for approximately 4.5 hours to Mossel Bay! We were welcomed by the hot sun shinning and huge waves crashing the beach! Our guide led us to a beautiful restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch outside. It was very relaxing! The warmth of the sun made it extremely enjoyable!
After lunch we ventured to this beautiful lodge! It was in the middle of nowhere and had a charming restaurant, gift shop, lounging area, and spacious deck overlooking the large grassland and forest area! After a quick refreshment my group of 12 loaded into our safari vehicle. This is exactly how you can picture it. Seating lining the vehicle, huge wheels and adventurers (not tourists) piled in taking pictures of everything possible! On this three hour adventure we saw antelope, elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, eland, bontebok, dessies, and many other forms of bird life! It was enchanting to see these animals in a natural habitat! (Not caged in at a zoo) Although it was a little bumpy ride, after all we were doing some serious off roading, everything was unbelievable to see!
Exhausted from a full day, we made our way back to the van and drove to our hostel. This cozy hostel was on the beach! It had a beach bar, meaning sand was the floor! There was a beautiful bonfire outside overlooking the water. I spent a couple hours outside with other volunteers relaxing and rehashing our unbelievable day! It was a comfortable and a very nice stay! Day 1 was a major success! Can't wait for the rest of the journey!
