Table Mountain

What an awesomely full day!! After a night out with the other volunteers, Ryan and I along with 2 other volunteers from our house departed for Table Mountain! The group of four took an early train to Cape Town, and then taxied to the trailhead of Table Mountain. With our backpacks packed and water bottles filled we began the hike to the top! Table Mountain is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. (According to the signage all over park) It seems like they are always adding on to the “Wonders of the World.” As we started our hike we were astonished at how steep the incline was! While some parts of the hike were only a slight incline, the majority of the hike was very steep. In fact it some parts required us to use all fours and help each other through certain passages. It was a challenging and rewarding experience! We had so much fun along the way that the 3 hours passed by very quickly. We ran into a variety of different people on the mountain, both locals and tourists. We were lucky to do this on a day that was 74 degrees and sunny! It was picture perfect! Absolutely breathtaking! I had so much fun doing this and would love to do it again!

Because this hike was not enough adventure for one day, we high-tailed it to the rugby stadium. I found out late in the week that the only rugby game I could attend while being here was Saturday! We had a fantastic experience at the rugby game. While approaching the stadium there was a lot of bars, tailgating, and families enjoying the day. I immediately got the vibe that this was more of a middle to upper class crowd. We found our seats, got a cold beer, and enjoyed the game! Springbox, the South African team, won by over 20 points. Although we were extremely confused about the scoring and rules it was a fun cultural experience. (Finally a sport that Ryan doesn’t know every rule and have every statistic memorized!) We were about ready to tumble over with exhaustion, so we took the quickest train back to Muizenberg. When we arrived at out door we realized the keypad we use to enter our house was not working, therefore we could not enter our house! We then called our supervisor and realized that the whole house lost power briefly, so the keypad had to be reset. Luckily, our supervisor came to help us immediately. About an hour later we made it into our house! What a day!
